9 Bollywood Movies that will give you Major Travel Goals

There are a lot of things that go into making of a Bollywood movie. From a good star cast to some really fantastic dialogues, and also some beautiful upbeat songs. A Bollywood movie is a mixture of some major and some minor requirements, each vitally important and one of this requirement is having a picturesque location. Indian Cinema has covered the snow-capped mountains of Switzerland and Kashmir, and also some beaches of Rio and Goa. Certain films have also managed to make villages look quaint and inviting.  Road trips, cruise ships, treks, getting stranded on an island, bachelor party trips, songs, etc. are some of the ways they make us fall in love with exotic locations and give us some breath-taking travel goals. So let’s take a look at some globe-trotting ideas that Bollywood gave us.
So here are our favorite picks from our very own Bollywood that will give you all the inspiration you need this time, given the many long weekend lined up.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge

This is where the travel craze started from. Like every college going kids, Raj and Simran plan a trip to Europe with their respective set of friends. Apparently, they both meet on the same trip, fall in love and after a short trip to the mustard fields of Punjab, they live happily ever after. What one cannot miss in the film is the beautiful landscapes, the European journey scenes and few songs were mainly filmed in Saanen, Montbovon and Gstaad, Switzerland. Other scenes were shot in England, at locations including Trafalgar Square, King's Cross railway station and Angel Underground station. Even the second half of the film, which is shot in Punjab, has inspired a generation to get a picture clicked in the mustard fields.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

So, Bunny loves to travel around the globe and shooting at amazing locales. Aside from the breath-taking scenes in Gulmarg (Kashmir), Europe in few portions and Udaipur, how many of you LOVED Bunny’s travel scrapbook? Bunny’s ‘book of dreams’ is all sorts of #TravelScrapbookGoals, in fact, Ranbir’s character is a globetrotter in the true sense. His job profile in the film doesn’t hurt either, making it completely cool to travel around the world and party, and how badly we all want a job like that! Not to mention the first half of the movie that makes you want to plan a trip with your friends to Manali (actually shot in Gulmarg) almost immediately. This movie surely gave thousands of major travel goals or at least made them search for a job like Bunny’s.

 

Dil Chahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai is the best film that’s made and probably will ever be made for Goa. While the movie is remembered for a whole lot of other things, the idea of friends travelling to just chill on the beaches of Goa is stuff vacation goals are made of! Such was the influence of the movie, Goa became the national holiday spot for the young generation and still remains so.

It’s only fair to say, the movie did Goa tourism a huge favour, turning Goa into the quintessential college road trip destination even today. As a bonus, the second half of the movie gives a good glimpse of Sydney too! It’s called a cult classic for a reason and giving us major road tripping goals is just one the many reasons!

 

Tamasha

One word – Corsica, and rest is history. Tamasha brought life to the beautiful city of Corsica for us Indians. The film showed the place so beautifully that each frame looked like a picture post card. It looked like a perfect getaway for the characters and felt like it would be perfect for us as well. The movie shows most of the Mediterranean island in its true glory- from its mountainous city streets and dense forests to glistening blue waters and rugged peaks. Add the scenic glory to the sizzling chemistry between Ved and Tara (Legit two strangers that meet in Corsica)… uff! The local flavour was just enough to make Corsica your dream destination, a place where nobody would know you and you won't know anybody either.

 

Dil Dhadakane Do

Dil Dhadakne Do will definitely give you instant family travel goals. The strengthening of family ties over a cruise escapade with destinations like Turkey, Spain and Tunisia sounds like the best travel plan. You’ll definitely want to head straight to the booking counter with your family, once you are done watching this one. The sequences on the cruise ship had beautiful ocean in the background and stunningly dressed people in the foreground, Wow!! So you're still looking for reasons to set off for a family vacation?

 

Queen

Also known as a single lady’s guide to touring Europe. This movie narrates the story of Rani travelling alone in Europe and discovering herself. Isn’t that what travelling is all about? Other than Kangana Ranaut’s amazing portrayal, Queen takes us on a journey across Paris and Amsterdam. Not only did Rani spark a traveller in every young Indian woman, it made traveling solo less of a big deal for us too! The movie sure teaches you that there’s more to life than finding a life partner – like traveling, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Who wouldn’t want to bump into a Vijaylakshmi in Paris or share a room with Taka, Tim, and Oleksander in Amsterdam? Count us in!

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

 To talk of travel and not to mention Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is unjust! This movie has been one of the best road trip movies that India has seen so far. The carefree road travels in Barcelona, the breath-taking deep-sea-diving in Costa Brava, the super-fun Tomatina festival in Bunol, the liberating skydiving in Seville, the Bull Run in Pampola, and those oh-so-beautiful landscapes, each bit of this movie screams travel goals. Like any other quit-the-concrete-jungle-and-go-travel sort of movies, ZNMD had its share of picture-perfect locations, but what set this multi-starrer apart is the experience that the movie takes us through.  It makes you want to travel with your friends and discover your own self. In fact, this film has made Spain a popular travel destination for Indians – So do you need anything more to pack your bags and go on an adventure trip of a lifetime?

 

 

Highway

This film was a journey that you didn't want to end. The theatre felt like a window seat of a vehicle and you just didn't want the vehicle to stop. A bride-to-be is kidnapped by a local goon who takes her through roads she has never seen before. It captures the remote Sangla Valley in Himachal Pradesh and drives over to the Aru Valley and Chandanwari near Pahalgam. And it's not just the scenic beauty of the mountains, the essence of the film is travel and is beautifully conveyed even in the plains of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. The movie really is a breath of fresh air, nudging us to pack our bags and go on a journey to find ourselves.  This is one picturesque movie that’s sure to give every backpacker itchy feet. And ofcourse you don’t have to get yourself kidnapped the way Ali Bhatt got.

 

Jab We Met

This Imtiaz Ali film definitely made every girl want to miss the train so that she could meet her caring travel-buddy cum life partner, Jab We Met is one of the most prominent reasons why we started loving train journeys. The film starts off with a train journey from Mumbai and makes some interesting stops at Ratlam, Kota, Bhatinda, Manali and Simla. Each city acts as a stop-over for the characters and the story of the film.  Located at a height of 3979 meters, Rohtang pass did not fail to mesmerize anyone who watched the movie Jab We Met. Rohtang pass, located just 51 kms away from Manali, is breathtakingly beautiful. Jab We Met may not be a classic travel movie, but it does make you want to visit the IRCTC website just to plan your trip via trains!
